ANEESH TIBERIAS MURALI

VP, Treasurer

My name is Aneesh Tiberias Murali, and I am running for Re-Election to the position of VPtreasurer for OPSEU Local 596. I have been a member of the Ryerson Community and OPSEU for the last five years and have served as VP-treasurer for the local for the last 2 years. I also serve as the Chair of the OPSEU Social Committee (organizing the OPSEU Festive Lunch and the OPSEU Summer BBQ) and general union Steward dealing with cases concerning discipline, job evaluation, and conflict management.

Professional Credentials: I currently work as the Lead, Financial Administrator in the RTA School of Media (FCAD). Prior to that I worked as the Departmental Financial Administrator for the Department of Economics (FOA), and as such, I was the principal financial administrator of the  departmental budget, for both salary and non-salary expenses. I have also served for the last four years as the Vice-President of Finance for my volleyball league here in Toronto, which spans over 750+ members. I am proficient in both Oracle and QuickBooks accounting software and have taken all the financial training certificate courses through Financial Services - Ryerson.

Academic Credentials: I completed my Bachelor of Arts (Double Major, Interdisciplinary Program) in Law (Labour/Corporate) and History and my Master of Arts in British Legal History at York University; and I am currently pursuing a PhD in History at Western University.

Goals Achieved as the VP-Treasurer for Fiscal Years 2018 and 2019: (1) Modernized the OPSEU treasury to be reflective of the technological age by incorporating QuickBooks into the local’s operational procedures. (2) Administrative Management of release-time requests and documentation. (3) Digitized past records for the last ten years, and generated analytical reports to support the creation of an operational budget that reflects industry norms and membership requirements. (4) Tabled and passed the 2019 Budget. (5) Spearheaded the generation of “Return on Investment” reports for OPSEU Convention and other non-Ryerson orientated activities.

Goals if Re-Elected for Fiscal Year 2020 and 2021: (1) Quick access to Budget documents and TAR Reports via a member’s only website portal. (2) Generation of a Staff Development and Career Development Fund. (3) Creation of a Sponsorship and Donation Policy. (4) Lay the ground works of a Staff Exchange Initiative. (5) Explore the creation of an office manager position in the OPSEU local office. (6) Financial reconciliation with OPSEU Local 596 Unit 2.

I have a strong work ethic and a keen analytical and administrative mind. I hope that you will continue to put your trust in me to get the job done.
