MARICRUZ RODRIGUEZ

EDI and Health and Safety Coordinator

Maricruz has served as a Mentoring Facilitator at the Tri-Mentoring Program for the last two years where she builds and facilitates programs, sessions and events centered in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). She is passionate about supporting students and she thrives in a work environment that is focused on helping people.

Since graduating from Ryerson in 2012, Maricruz has supported youth, including refugees and newcomers, to find employment as well as settle in Canada by providing information and resources related to housing, education, immigration and more. During this time, Maricruz also worked as a steward for the Workers United Local 154 for 5 years, where she was always mindful of members' needs, supports, and strategies before, during, and after a grievance process.

Her work as a steward motivated Maricruz to pursue a Master’s Degree in Industrial Relations and Human Resources where she educated herself on grievance and arbitration processes, collective bargaining, health and safety practices, but most importantly working with and for people. Maricruz has contributed to OPSEU 596 as a member of the Social Committee running events for staff including the Summer BBQ, and as a steward.

Maricruz hopes to serve the membership as the EDI and Health & Safety Coordinator developing and supporting the membership with EDI initiatives and opportunities, and ensuring a safe work environment for all.
